Abstract
Two patients(pts) on CAPD developed abdominal abscesses between 1986 and 1994. During this period, 206 pts cared for in our CAPDD unit developed 418 episodes of peritonitis. Two pts developed intraperitoneal abscesses associated with prior
peritonitis.
One of these episodes of peritonitis was due to pseudomonas, the other Mycobacterium tuberculosis with a concomitant exit site infection and leakage. CT scan or ultrasonogram and abscessogram confirmed the abscess. Both pts underwent percutaneous
drainage with successful resolution of the abscesses. None of these pts developed recurrence of the abscess. Abdominal abscess is a potential, though rare., complication of CAPD associated peritonitis, occurring in 0.5% of all peritonitis
episodes.
